Next Gen Pastor for Maranatha Chapel, San Diego, CA. The church, under the leadership of Pastor Daniel Bentley, serves the beautiful community and surrounding areas of Rancho Bernardo in San Diego. The region around the church is comprised
of sprawling canyons, rolling hills and growing housing developments making it poised for ongoing growth. Maranatha Chapel is an established non-denominational evangelical Christian church, in fellowship with Calvary Chapel of Costa Mesa.
The Next Gen Pastor position calls for a leader with vision and strategic insight to oversee age-based ministries from birth—young adults. The Next Gen Pastor will provide leadership, strategy and alignment for present age-level ministry leaders, program
initiatives, and engaged volunteers. The Next Gen Pastor will actively build partnerships within the church and outreach to the broader community.
Primary Responsibilities
- Develop and cast a compelling vision for the spiritual growth of the next generation, inspiring volunteers, parents, and church members to actively support these ministries.
- Lead, develop and supervise staff members who oversee Next Gen ministries; focusing on their spiritual and professional growth, ministry performance, and goal setting.
- Lead the Next Gen staff in planning and executing services and events, with regular evaluation to ensure alignment with Maranatha Chapel’s mission and vision.
- Create environments where children and students will experience the presence of God.
- Develop and implement a cohesive strategy for children, youth, and young adult ministries, ensuring a seamless transition between age groups.
- Recruit, equip, and inspire volunteers to serve in Next Gen ministries, providing regular training, mentorship, and support to develop a strong volunteer culture.
- Create engaging programs, events, and experiences that align with biblical teachings and the church’s mission, catering to the spiritual needs of various age groups.
- Maintain regular communication with families, keeping them informed and involved in ministry activities.
- Partner with parents to equip and encourage them as the primary spiritual leaders in their children’s lives, and provide them with practical resources, workshops, and guidance to support their parenting role.
- Engage with local schools and organizations in the community through creative outreach initiatives to attract unchurched families and connect them to the church.
- Provide leadership to ensure Next Gen ministries are following the discipleship pathway of Maranatha Chapel.
- Serve as an advocate for the next generation within the church’s leadership structure to integrate Next Gen ministries into the broader life and mission of the church.
- Be a student of Next Gen aged faith-development and ministry through independent study and continuing educational opportunities.
- Provide pastoral care and support to Next Gen children, students, related family members, team leaders and volunteers.
Key Qualifications and Skills
- A mature, growing, personal relationship with Jesus Christ, evident in character, conduct, and leadership.
- 5+ years of experience in leading children, youth, or young adult ministries in a large church setting.
- Bachelor’s degree in ministry, theology, or a related field. (Preferred)
- A collaborative, team-oriented mindset with a passion for equipping others to lead.
- Strong communicator with the ability to connect well with children, students, parents, volunteers, and church leadership.
- Someone who brings enthusiasm, energy, and excellence to everything they do.
- Ability to develop and implement long-term ministry strategies that meet the spiritual needs of birth—young adults.
- Ability to lead Next Gen ministries with a clear understanding of the present cultural climate.
- Skilled in recruiting and mentoring leaders and volunteers.
- Demonstrate the ability to collaborate with other departments and staff members.
- Strong organizational and leadership skills.
