Job Title: Contemporary Worship Leader
Job Description: Responsible for the planning, coordinating and facilitating of modern worship services. This role requires a passion for creating an atmosphere of worship that engages the congregation, aligns with the church’s mission and values, and fosters a deep connection with God through music and praise.
Specific Responsibilities:
- Worship Service Leadership
- Lead and facilitate the worship team during all worship services, ensuring that each service has a clear focus on glorifying God.
- Choose appropriate songs that align with the theme of the service and the spiritual needs of the congregation.
- Lead the congregation in both vocal and instrumental worship, ensuring a smooth flow and engaging atmosphere.
- Coordinate rehearsals and communicate with team members regarding song selections, transitions, and service flow.
- Team Management and Development
- Recruit, train, and mentor worship team members (vocalists, musicians, instrumentalists etc.).
- Provide regular feedback and coaching to team members to help them grow spiritually and musically.
- Foster a team environment that encourages collaboration, unity, and personal growth.
- Ensure the worship team is spiritually healthy, prayerful, and committed to the mission of the church.
- Music Selection and Planning
- Plan and curate music sets for weekly services, special events, and seasonal services (Christmas, Easter, etc.).
- Stay updated on contemporary worship music trends and integrate relevant songs that resonate with the congregation.
- Ensure music selections support the sermon theme and overall service flow.
- Collaborate with the lead pastor and other pastors/speakers to plan services that align with the church’s vision and message.
- Technical Coordination
- Work closely with the Tech/Media Director and audio/visual team to ensure that sound, lighting, and media elements support the worship experience.
- Spiritual Leadership
- Encourage personal spiritual growth and a deep relationship with Christ among the worship team members.
- Lead by example in maintaining a lifestyle of worship and integrity both on and off the stage.
- Facilitate regular prayer and devotional time for the worship team.
- Community and Outreach
- Actively participate in the church community by building relationships with congregants and worship team members.
- Foster an inclusive and welcoming worship environment where all are encouraged to participate.
- Administrative Tasks
- Organize and schedule rehearsals, worship services, and special events.
- Maintain and organize song libraries, worship charts, and other resources for the worship team.
- Communicate clearly with church leadership regarding service plans, needs, and updates.
- Corporate Involvement
- Provide worship support, leadership, and direction for other areas of the church as needed (e.g. Celebrate Recovery, Youth Ministry, VBS, Mission trips, Child Care Center).
- When possible, assist in other church ministries/events as needed or asked.
Qualifications
- A deep, personal relationship with Jesus Christ and a passion for leading others in worship.
- Experience leading contemporary worship services in a church setting.
- Proficiency in playing at least one instrument (guitar, piano, etc.) and strong vocal ability.
- Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work well in a team environment and lead with humility and grace.
- Familiarity with audio/visual equipment and worship software is a plus.
- Theological understanding that aligns with the church’s mission and values.
- Strong organizational and planning skills.
- A heart for service and ministry, with a focus on building a vibrant, Christ-centered worship community.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Degree in music, worship ministry, theology, or a related field.
- Previous experience working in a leadership role in a contemporary worship environment.
- Proficient in worship software (e.g., Planning Center, ProPresenter, etc.).
Work Schedule:
- Includes Sundays and evenings for rehearsals and services.
- Flexibility to work on special events, holiday services, and outreach initiatives as needed.
- We offer a flexible work environment allowing for out of office ministry preparation, study, meeting with volunteers, congregants, etc. However, we believe hours spent in the office, attending staff meetings and developing relationships with other staff are equally important. To that end we expect that you will maintain office hours that fit your ministry and communicate variances from that.
