Job Title:                   Associate Director of Worship & Arts

Purpose:

As a key member of the Worship & Arts team, the Associate Director of Worship & Arts reports directly to the Worship & Arts Pastor.  This role serves as a crucial support to the Pastor of Worship & Arts, encompassing regular participation in the Worship Band, leading Sunday services in the absence of the Worship Pastor, leading and directing worship for Student Ministry, and overseeing some of the technical aspects of the worship services and productions across Northside’s facilities. Additionally, the Associate Director of W&A will supervise a team of volunteers in the execution of production elements during Sunday services, prioritizing team synergy, proficiency, and overall effectiveness.

Qualifications:

  • Demonstrates a robust personal commitment to Jesus Christ in lifestyle, interpersonal relationships, church dedication and a strong work ethic.
  • Holds a Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science degree in ministry or a related field; alternatively, possesses a minimum of three (3) years of relevant experience in the ministry focus area of this role.
  • Exhibits spiritual maturity and character consistent with Biblical requirements for leadership.
  • Demonstrates servant-leadership qualities.
  • Possesses advanced skills in singing and playing a musical instrument, capable of leading congregational worship.
  • Displays a passion for leading and training up the next generation of musicians in student ministry worship.
  • Displays at least a basic understanding of technical systems (greater proficiency can be learned on the job), with the ability to build, train, equip and oversee a volunteer team in various production technologies, including but not limited to:
    • Live sound, utilizing Digital Audio Consoles (specifically Allen & Heath iLive T80)
    • Live video production– (multicamera, iMag, streaming) with expertise in Black Magic video switcher
    • Lighting (Programming & operating) for conventional, LED and Intelligent systems (specifically Jands Vista)
    • Technical systems maintenance
    • Media Presentation and projection utilizing ProPresenter
    • (Familiarity with the specific equipment used at Northside is advantageous, but not mandatory for the hiring process. A learning curve is expected on the specific systems we use.)
  • Demonstrates a keen mind for troubleshooting technical systems (audio, video, lighting, word presentation, and projection)
  • Possesses creative skills that enhance the excellence of services and productions.
  • Communicates effectively both verbally and in writing, with strong interpersonal skills.
  • Excels in multitasking a diverse range of projects and assignments, consistently meeting deadlines in a timely manner.

Essential Functions

The Associate Director of Worship & Arts is expected to:

  • Partner with the Worship & Arts Pastor to develop and execute all aspects of the worship services by overseeing the technical teams, systems and processes in place.
  • Participate as an instrumentalist and/or vocalist in the Praise Band for weekly worship services and be able to lead the congregational worship in the absence of the Worship Pastor.
  • Lead and direct the student praise band for their midweek worship time as well as foster, develop, and train the next generation to have a passion for serving with their musical gifts and abilities.
  • Partner with the Worship & Arts Pastor in the critical and ongoing development of the volunteer technical team.
  • Work with the Worship & Arts Pastor to develop, recommend and manage budget items for all audio, visual and lighting needs of the W&A budget. This includes reporting all expenses and reviewing budgets and budget line items.
  • Oversee all technical systems in various ministries, ensuring needs are met for each ministry and making recommendations for improvement.
  • Provide periodic maintenance checks on all systems (software and hardware) to make sure everything is working properly and notify the Worship & Arts Pastor of any repairs needed. Contact local AVL company for needed repairs of equipment.
  • Prepare and pre-program the following specific technical elements for Sunday Services (all of which we will train on the job)
    • Create/build and pre-mix click tracks for the worship set using Ableton software.
    • Automate lyrics using midi cues with Ableton and ProPresenter.
    • Automate video through midi cues for displaying videos on IMAG screens and LED wall
    • Create/program lighting scenes for the worship set to enhance the visual atmosphere.
  • Preserve the aesthetic presentation of the auditorium stage by ensuring cleanliness and by organizing stage adjustments for diverse events.
  • Conduct comprehensive training, supervision, and mentoring for all volunteers involved in the technical production of Sunday morning services. This includes facilitating a pre-service production meeting to establish a focused and seamless service flow.
  • Ensure availability for all Northside events requiring technical assistance OR coordinate with a proficient volunteer to effectively manage the event’s technical requirements.
  • Be available for the periodic training of volunteers/teachers and provide troubleshooting support for any technical issues at Northside Christian Academy (on campus) as needed. While the school typically manages production independently, occasional assistance may be required.
  • Continuously pursue the expansion of expertise in state-of-the-art church technologies to elevate and enrich the overall congregational experience.
  • Faithfully steward all resources in which this position is entrusted in a way that is above reproach and honors God.

Professional Relationships

The Associate Director of Worship & Arts is responsible for maintaining professional relationships by:

  • Directly reporting to the Worship & Arts Pastor, engaging in weekly meetings to align services, projects, initiatives, and assignments with the vision and direction set by the Senior Staff.
  • Collaborating consistently with other ministry staff to enhance the production quality of various ministry functions throughout the week.
  • Demonstrating respect and honor to all church staff, including pastoral and support staff, and fostering a collaborative team approach to ministry with colleagues.
  • Providing oversight to the Technical team during Sunday mornings services, offering mentoring and a shepherding relationship to all volunteers.
  • Planning and executing assigned projects with appropriate correspondence and timely, professional communication.
  • Regularly interacting with Northside members, guests and volunteers.
  • Committing to identifying and cultivating relationships with individuals for the purpose of training and accountability in their personal walk with the Lord, their marriage, their family role, and their professional growth.
